Routines, and what happens when the computer sleeps
Schedules, follow-ups and the morning brief run while Pivra Desk is open and your computer is on. Here is what that means in practice.
Updated 4 Oct 2026
A routine is something your agent does on a schedule: check your inbox each weekday morning, draft the daily article, list what is due this week. Agents also add their own follow-ups when they are waiting on something ("follow up on the quote in 3 days").
The honest limit first
Pivra Desk runs on your computer. Routines run while the app is open and the computer is on. They do not run while the computer is asleep or shut down. If the computer was asleep at a routine's time, it runs once when it wakes (within a few hours) instead of catching up on every missed time.
Closing the window leaves routines running: the app stays in the menu bar on a Mac, or in the system tray by the clock on Windows. Quitting stops them until Pivra Desk opens again.
If you need work that carries on with the laptop closed, a cloud agent is the better fit today. Pivra Cloud, for always-on work, is planned as an opt-in; nothing in Pivra Desk depends on it.
Add a routine
- Open Routines for the agent.
- Press add, give the routine a name, a schedule and what to do in plain words ("Use the What is due skill").
- Save. It is on from now; switch it off from the same list.
Templates come with routines that are off until you tick them when you create the agent: for example Daily article draft (weekdays at 9:00), Daily social drafts (weekdays at 9:30), What is due this week (Mondays at 8:00), Weekly follow-ups (Fridays at 18:00), Today's study plan (every day at 7:00).
The morning brief
The Morning brief is a ready-made routine that comes with Plus: on weekdays at 7:30 it tells you anything that needs you today, what changed since yesterday, and what the agent would do next, in under ten lines. Turn it on during setup or from Routines → Morning brief. Your own routines are free on every plan.
What a routine may do on its own
The same rules as everything else. A routine can read, search and draft by itself. Anything that sends, publishes, pays or changes something waits on an approval card, which you will find under Needs you on Home and, if you connected one, in your Slack or Teams bot. Finished runs and anything that did not finish are listed under While you were away and in Activity.
