Introducing Pivra Desk: AI teammates on your own computer that ask before they act
Pivra Desk is a local-first, human-in-the-loop AI agent for Mac and Windows. Give an agent a job, let it draft the work from your own files and apps, and say yes before anything is sent, paid or published.
Today we're opening up Pivra Desk: AI teammates that live on your own computer, do the busywork, and wait for your yes before anything leaves your desk.
You give an agent a job the way you'd brief a colleague. It reads what it needs from your files, your calendar and the web, drafts the work, and comes back with something you can approve, edit or turn down. Reading and searching just happen. Sending, paying, publishing and changing things never happen without you.
Pivra Desk is free for Mac (Apple silicon) and Windows. Download it here.
How Pivra Desk is different
It works on your computer, not someone else's
Most AI agents do their work on a computer in the cloud. Pivra Desk does it on yours. Your agents, chats, memory and files live in a local database on your machine, and your passwords and keys are sealed in a vault whose key sits in your computer's own keychain. Nothing about your work is sent to Pivra.
If you want, the thinking can stay on your machine too. Offline mode runs Gemma 4 through llama.cpp right on your computer: no account, no key, and it picks a model size that fits the memory you have free. Or bring your own key for Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter, or a model you already run with Ollama or LM Studio. With your own key, requests go from your computer straight to that provider, not through us.
Read exactly what stays and what leaves.
It asks before it acts
Every action an agent takes is sorted by what it could do:
- Reading and searching run on their own. Looking things up never needs a click.
- Sending, publishing, paying and changing wait on an approval card that shows exactly what will happen: who it goes to, what it says, what changes. You approve, edit, or say not now.
- Money, deletes and deploys need Touch ID on a Mac, or a typed phrase.
You can add your own rules in plain words, like "never email clients on weekends", and a "never" rule stops the action on the spot. No web page, email or clever prompt can grant an agent permission you didn't give it.
It starts with a job, not a blank box
Pick a template and the agent asks a few setup questions, then gets going:
- Content & SEO drafts one useful article a day for your site (or LinkedIn, Medium or a newsletter if you have no site yet) and checks how you show up in search. Point it at your website and "Fill from my website" suggests your brand, audience, topics and tone.
- Bookkeeper keeps a ledger from the invoices and receipts you share and drafts polite reminders. It never pays or sends anything by itself.
- Researcher answers a question with a short brief and a link for every source, and says when sources disagree.
- Job hunt tracks applications and tailors your CV and cover letters from what is true about you.
- Study planner turns a syllabus and exam dates into a daily plan and quizzes you from your own notes.
- Social media turns your news and wins into ready-to-copy drafts for LinkedIn and X.
Or skip the template and describe the job in your own words.
It keeps going while you get on with your day
Agents run routines on a schedule: a morning brief at 7:30, a daily article draft, a weekly check. Schedules stay off until you tick them on. While your computer is on, your agents keep working in the background, and anything that needs you shows up as an approval card.
It learns how you like things done
Agents remember what matters from your chats, and you can review and forget anything they've learned. Over time they need less explaining.
What it does not do (yet)
We would rather you hear the limits from us:
- It runs while your computer is on. Close the laptop and the agents pause until you open it again. Pivra Cloud, for work that carries on with the laptop closed, is coming as an opt-in.
- It drafts email; it doesn't send through Gmail by itself. Pivra's built-in Google sign-in reads your calendar. Approved emails are saved as drafts for you to send, unless you connect your own Google app.
- Plus + Credits, with cloud model credits included, is coming soon. Today you can run a model on your computer or bring your own key.
- No audit or certification yet. The security page lists what we have not done, and we update it with each release.
How we use it ourselves
We use Pivra Desk to run parts of Pivra. Our Content & SEO agent drafts articles for this blog from our own website and a list of questions people ask us, and every draft is reviewed by a person before it's published. That's the whole idea: the agent does the first 90%, and a human says yes to the part that matters.
Plans
Pivra Desk is free: one agent, a model on your computer or your own key, files, routines and approvals. Plus is US$6 (A$9) a month for as many agents as you like, one-click Google and GitHub sign-in, and the morning brief. If you're on a Pivra Pro or Business workspace, Desk Plus is already included.
