Add an AI Chatbot to Wix, Squarespace or Shopify in Australia
Step-by-step guidance for Australian businesses adding an AI website chatbot on Wix, Squarespace, or Shopify — plus when WordPress plugin install is the better path.
Not every Australian business website is WordPress. Plenty of strong local brands run on Wix, Squarespace, or Shopify. You can still add an AI chatbot for your website — usually with a footer or site-wide script embed.
This guide covers the practical path for those platforms, what to train first, and how to verify the widget is live.
Before you embed anything
- Publish the chatbot (draft bots should stay off public pages)
- Train on your URL and key FAQs
- Enable lead capture (name + mobile at minimum)
- Copy the official popup snippet from your Pivra Install screen
Do not invent the snippet. Use the one tied to your chatbot ID.
Wix (Australia SME favourite for brochure sites)
Where it goes: Settings → Custom Code (or Tracking & Analytics, depending on your Wix editor generation) → Add custom code → place in Body end sitewide.
Steps:
- Open your Pivra Install → HTML snippet
- In Wix, add custom code for the whole site
- Paste the Pivra config +
popup.jsscript - Publish the Wix site
- Open a public page in an incognito window and look for the bubble
Watch-outs: Some Wix optimisation or cookie-banner setups delay third-party scripts. If the bubble is missing, disable conflicting scripts temporarily and retest.
Squarespace
Where it goes: Settings → Advanced → Code Injection → Footer.
Steps:
- Paste the Pivra popup snippet into Footer Code Injection
- Save and refresh a live page
- Confirm the chat launcher appears on mobile and desktop
Watch-outs: Squarespace Commerce and membership areas may use different templates. Test your highest-traffic page and your contact page.
Shopify
Shopify is storefront-first. A chatbot still helps with:
- shipping timeframes you publish
- returns policy
- product-fit FAQs
- wholesale or custom-order enquiries
Where it goes: Online Store → Themes → Edit code → theme.liquid just before </body>, or a reputable “custom HTML / footer script” app if you prefer not to edit code.
Steps:
- Back up the theme
- Paste the Pivra snippet before
</body> - Save and preview on a product page and the homepage
- Test a wholesale/enquiry lead path if that matters to you
Watch-outs: Heavy app stacks can collide. If multiple chat tools are installed, remove abandoned ones so visitors are not hit with three bubbles.
WordPress still has an advantage
If you are on WordPress, prefer Pivra’s official plugin and one-time setup code over theme footer edits. Theme updates wipe manual snippets; the plugin path is built for that problem. See the 5-minute WordPress install guide.
Platform comparison for Australian SMEs
| Platform | Typical install | Best for | Friction |
|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress | Plugin + setup code | Trades, agencies, clinics on WP | Lowest long-term maintenance |
| Wix | Sitewide custom code | Local service brochure sites | Code settings vary by editor |
| Squarespace | Footer code injection | Studios, consultants, hospitality | Easy, but easy to forget on template swaps |
| Shopify | theme.liquid or app | Product FAQs + wholesale leads | Theme edits need care on updates |
Verify install the same way on every platform
After publishing:
- Open your site in a private browser window
- Ask two real questions from your FAQ
- Submit a test lead with your own mobile
- Confirm the alert arrives
- Check Pivra Install for widget detection / domain signal
If detection fails, clear CDN/cache plugins and confirm you pasted the snippet once — not twice.
Content tips that improve results on website builders
Website builders often have thin pages. Give the bot more to work with:
- paste a plain-text service area list
- upload a PDF price guide
- add refinements for your top 10 objections (“Do you travel to…?”)
Thin sites produce thin answers — regardless of Wix vs WordPress.

The platform is a detail. The outcome is the same: an Australian website that answers and captures enquiries when you cannot pick up the phone.
